Stragglers Ted, Brad, Bernd, Gerry, Blaine and Andreas I woke up early, so got up at 7:30 and made myself breakfast. Blaine and Brad came down a bit later and said they were going to Dog River. I finished yesterday's blog post, and then got out my bike and jointed them.  Kent decided he would start driving.  Big Air Jim, Cam and Cynthia left around 8:00, and Big Jim and Handre had already left. Bernd, Brad, Jim, Gerry, Andreas and I all met at Dog River, and then headed across the street to Bett's.  None of us were in a particular hurry to leave.  Temira's forecast was for sailable wind starting around 11:30.  We figured we might be able to get in a short session before leaving, but I think every one was thinking of leaving today. We all went down to the event site to see what would happen.  Suddenly a line of whitecaps came down the river - like magic! The wind picked up so we all went into a rigging frenzy!  Equipment flying and luggage unloaded from...

Boards, Foils, Wings, and sails - all over the beach! The call last night was for Viento - and early - be on the water by 8:00. When I got up, I was about to leave, when Blaine came down and said that Jim Mudry had texted him, and that the call was now Stevenson. When I got to the Stevenson Boat Launch, there were only two other people there.  One guy went out on a WingFoil board and a 5.0 and quickly disappeared upwind.  The other guy went out on a very small wing board and a 3.5 wing and seemed to be powered.....  what to do??? Blaine and Brad arrived shortly after I did.  I went out on my 4.5 wing and 899 foil and had a good session for about a half an hour.  Then the wind started to lighten up, so I came back to switch to my 5.5. The others were getting ready to head out.  Brad and Blaine were on their 5.2's and Kent was on his new 6.0 FR. Cam went out on his 6.0 wing because his 5.0 was in the shop getting repaired.  Both Jim's were on their 6.0 s...

2023-06-21 No Wind Day

Image
Today started as all the others with Dog River for Coffee, and then Bette's for breakfast, although a few went elsewhere. Temira's forecast was for ZERO wind, so some of the group decided to go golfing while others decided on a bike ride. Brad, Blaine, Andreas and Big Air Jim decided to go golfing.  They went to the Indian Creek Golf Course.  Brad said it is a bit difficult, but a beautiful course with great greens - very civilized.  A good time was had by all, and they consumed a fair amount of food after the game, which I hear was also excellent. Cam. Cynthia, Handré and I did the Rowena Lookout ride. Cam and Cynthia toughed it out on gravel bikes, while Handré and I had E-Bikes.   It was a spectacular day with incredible scenery as usual!  On the way up, we met Big Jim on his way back.  He had gone ahead of us because he had a zoom meeting early in the afternoon!  He said he had a great ride and really liked his E-Bike! Big Air Jim on his way h...

Bernd - ready to go! The day started off as usual with coffee at Dog River.  I was laughing at Bernd as he told us that he had left his wetsuit and harness at Moiser yesterday.  It was all neatly arranged in the old payment booth when he went to get it.  Then Mike arrived from Roosevelt and told us that he had forgotten a board on the beach.  Apparently Peter, (from BC), had called him to let him know, and Peter will deliver it tomorrow. All very funny - how could they do that.... Most of the guy's went to the Egg River Café for breakfast.  The food was good, but the service was very slow. The call was for the event site.  We arrived just after 12:00.  The wind was very light so most of the guy's rigged their 6.0 Flyer sails.  Kent was happy because he was able to try out the new 6.0 FR that he bought yesterday. Kent - proud of his new sail! I got out my big windboard, and then went to blow up my 5.5m sail.  WTF - I didn't have a pump!  ...

Kent and Andreas - ready for a great session! Andreas and I left just before 8:30 to visit AirTime.  I dropped off my 4.5 wing for a repair, and Andreas got a price for the repair of one of his foil kites.  We then went to Sailworks and had a great conversation with the guys. We found out later that we missed the action.  Kent went to Sailworks to upgrade his 6m Flyer sail to a new one.  He ended up with a 6m sail, a 7m sail, a new mast, and a mast extension!  And all for under $2,500 Canadian.  Kent says that it's because new sails are the same as crack cocaine and Bruce is a master pusher! Then Blaine and Brad went to Sailworks, so Brad could buy a new 3.2m sail and return the 2.7m sail he had tried out yesterday. Big Air Jim, Cam and Cynthia also went to Sailworks, and picked up a demo 105 Litre Wind Foil board for Cynthia!  Consensus of of the people who did not sail the board,  and will not have to pay for it, is that Cynthia should ge...

2023-06-18 Rufus

Brad! The day started early for Ross and I, as I drove him to the airport for his 10:45am flight home.  I got back to the condo at 10.  The lemmings were trying to decide where to go - Maybe Rufus, and maybe Roosevelt.  Kent and I left and drove to Bigs where we got gas.  By then, the group had decided on Rufus, so we had a short drive to get there. It was fairly windy with a big current.  I went out on my 3.5 wing and 799 foil and had a great session for about a half hour, until the wind backed off.  I started struggling getting up, and getting going.  Very frustrating.  I would get foiling on a gust, and make it part way back downwind, but then the wind would die and I would fall in and loose my ground because of the current.  I ended up with a bit of a self rescue, and a long walk home. Kent had a great day!  He sailed 52km and was able to handle the gusts and get through the lulls.  AT one point, Dale Cook went flying through on...

2023-06-17 Roosevelt - The Gang is all here.

handre and Bernd Brad and Blaine got up early (8ish) and headed directly to Roosevelt to join Mike and Gerry.  Others (Jim, Andreas and Bernd) went to Dog River, others went shopping. Eventually everyone made there way to Roosevelt.  I got there around 11:00.  Mike and Gerry were there watching the wind build, but none of our group were out yet.  Everyone got out, and everyone had a great day.  Cynthia started on a 3.2 and changed to a 2.5.  Brad was on a 3.8, and then changed to a 2.7.   I went out on a 4.5 wing and my 899 foil and had the best sail of the trip.  I was really enjoying the swells on the far side, doing S-Turns down the waves.  After lunch I went out again, and was way overpowered.  I made it work until I crashed and my rear foil stabilizer punched through my wing.  Oops..  Fortunately I was able to sail it back with no further damage! Bernd was out on his 7m kite and had a great sail and was skimming acros...
