Waiting for Wind!

Even though Temira's forecast was for good wind all the way through the corridor all day, we had a bit of a late start.  It started with Coffee at Dog River, and then breakfast at Bette's.  Cam, Cynthia and Jim had arrived late last night and were all keen to get on the water.  We also heard Mike is in Roosevelt camping and getting lots of wind!

Before sailing, though we all had to make our contribution to the local economy.  Blaine bought a new foil rig (although he claims it didn't cost him any real money), Kent bought a wetsuit and a helmet, Blaine bought a helmet, and I lost track of all the other purchases.

We met at the Event Site around noon - just after the wind died....

It was just a temporary lull, so Kent rigged his 3.2.  Blaine claims he only brought his 3.2 down to the beach, but didn't rig it.

We waited and waited.  The wind didn't pick up.....  At home we would have been trying to make it work, but here.......

Finally about 3:00 I put on my 999 front wing and went out on my 125L board to try to make it work.  I got foiling right away in a gust, but that was it.  I slogged around for a while and then came in exhausted from all the pumping I did trying (without success) to get back on the foil.  Damn.

Next Cam gave it a try.  Then around 4:00, there was a rigging frenzy as everyone decided to go big.  Kent put up his 6m sail as did Blaine.  They went out, and then decided to re-rig to a 5.2.

Cynthia, Big Air Jim, Big Jim, and Handre were also out Windsurf foiling and having a great time.

I had a second session on the 999, and then switched back to my 899.  Even thought it is a smaller foil, I seem to be able to pump it onto the foil in about the same or less wing than the bigger foil,  and once up, it seems to glide better and stay up.  I had a pretty good session foiling most of the time.

Bernd had a frustrating day on the beach, as there wasn't enough wind for his kite.  Ross, is still suffering from a fall he had a few days ago, and decided not to kite today, although he said he would have been going easily on his 7m.

Bruce Peterson joined us on the water late in the day and put on a real show as usual!  Man is he fast!

We all got off the water by 6:30 and the wind shut off completely by 7:00.

It was almost 9:00 by the time everyone had debriefed and de-rigged.  We were dehydrated, hungry and tired.

Lots of gear on the beach!

We walked over to pFriems where we found a table.  The meal was excellent as usual.

A few people went over to Jim Soneff's condo for a night cap - but the party didn't last long.  I think everyone was exhausted.

Andreas showed up just as we were heading to bed!  Great to see him.  I understand Gerry should be arriving tonight or tomorrow morning as well!

It wasn't the day we were expecting based on the forecast, but all in all, most of us had an excellent day.  I guess that is the magic of foiling!
