2023-06-13 Rowena Lookout - Day -2

Timara's forecast was for "Nukin Westerlies".  Louise and I left by 9:00 and headed for the Rowena Lookout on our bikes.  The wind was gusty, and the river was all white with big rollers.  When we got to the Lookout, we were almost blown off the bluff.  Our bikes were being blown all over, particularly in the open sections.  We had to peddle down the hills with almost as much effort as it took to climb them.  (Yes, I did use the power on my E-Bike).  It was a very "Interesting" ride, but fun.

On the way back we stopped at Mosier for a Coffee and Tea at the Randonnee Coffee Co, which is an interesting little "Pop-up" shop, across from the Mexican food truck.

We also stopped at the Event Site.  The wind had been up and down - it was currently down.  We ran into Martin & Mike and made arrangements to go for supper with them.  On the way back to Ross's, I picked up a new foot-strap for my Windboard from NSI.

When we got back to Ross's, we had gone just over 50km.

We went to Kickstand for lunch and split a great burger and fries $39 US with a beer and latte - ouch!  We then stopped at Sailworks (the local economy stimulation may have begun), and then at Big Winds where I bought a new helmet, and Louise tried on some wetsuits.  Unfortunately nothing fit.

Louise and I headed down to the Event site again and sat in the shade.  There were some big gusts coming through every now and then, but also some periods of very little wind.  Like usual, the skinny expert guys were having a blast, but there was almost no one else out.  It looked like it was better up at the Hatchery.

I am sure if the gang was here pushing me, I would have gone out, but Louise and I enjoyed watching.

When we got back to Ross's, we could see that he had arrived, collected his kite gear and headed out.

At around 7:00, we took our bikes down to the Event site where we met Martin and Mike.  Ross was there as well, just packing up his kite gear.  Martin had been out on his 6m Kite.  He described it as very powered, and then nothing (Kite falling out of the sky), then full on again.  Mike went out on his 6m and didn't have enough, so he took out his 8 and  the wind picked up.  Ross was out on his 4m Kite and foil.  They all said they had a great session!

We all went to pFreim Family Brewhouse for supper.  The service was so-so, but the food was excellent.  It was really great catching up with Martin and Mike.

Another great day!
